BRUSH UP! Fully Animated Spot

This fully animated spot for Mograph Classes features the instruction and work of the talented Caitlin Cadieux. This spot guides us through a typical lesson all on an iPad. Built and rendered in Cinema4D and Octane, the entire spot was first meticulously built in After Effects. The 2D layers were then aligned with the exact shots in 3D. Only then can you get the super-realism of Octane’s depth of field on the output of the iPad screen. Comps in post wouldn’t look nearly as pretty. Great detail was put into lighting and texturing this iPad to display Caitlin’s beautiful illustrations.

We wanted to show off the fact that this was all done “In Camera” in Cinema4D+Octane. To make the iPad feel like more than just a 2D screen replacement, we added pixels to the display. These look really cool in the shots where the focus is sweeping across the iPad because of their subtle blur as the camera moves. They are technically bigger than the pixels you would see on an iPad in real life. They’re exaggerated ever so slightly so the viewer subconsciously feels the realism in these closeups and feels like they’re watching the course on a real iPad.
